Until recently, On the Beach focused on providing short haul beach holidays to destinations such as Spain, the Canary Islands, Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt. However, recently the company has decided to shift towards providing holidays to medium-long haul destinations such as Goa in India, Phuket in Thailand and Florida in America. Despite the distance of these destinations, the holidays are still affordable. In the future, On the Beach hopes to expand into more long haul destinations thanks to incessant requests from customers to include the likes of Australia. About the CEO
Founder and CEO of On the Beach, Simon Cooper began his career in the travel industry whilst attending university by founding a ski company called On the Piste. The business was aimed at groups of students who wanted to go on budget friendly holidays to ski resorts. He operated On the Piste from 1995 to 2008, but in 2004, started work on a new venture called On the Beach. In 2008, Thomson’s purchased On the Piste and Cooper directed his attention to his new platform.
Growth of the company
In 2008, On the Beach began expanding further by investing into Resort Taxis. This business would assist in transporting holidaymakers in Egypt, Turkey and mainland Spain, amongst others. The company also founded On the Beach beds in 2011, allowing them to contract directly with hotels to secure better deals for customers. In 2012, the company launched its 24 hour in resort support service, providing customers with points of contact whilst abroad. By the end of 2012, the company had located to larger new headquarters in Cheadle, near Manchester.
